The East and Horn of Africa is prone to dynamic mixed migration flows, whereby migrants face a wide range of protection risks. To respond to these challenges, the proposed project will seek to contribute to effective migration management in the East and Horn of Africa through safe and dignified return, post-arrival assistance and reintegration of vulnerable Ethiopian migrants. The interventions will cover Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia, the United Republic of Tanzania, and Yemen and will entail two phases of assistance:

  • Humanitarian assistance to stranded migrants in countries of transit
  • Return and reintegration assistance for the most vulnerable in countries of origin
Main reintegration activities:
  • Tailored in-kind socioeconomic reintegration assistance will be provided to 132 vulnerable returnees (mainly but not exclusively from Yemen and Tanzania). The support will consist of basic business and life skills trainings, linkages to vocational training institutes when possible, support in developing business/livelihood plans, and provision of in-kind material assistance to start up a small business or other income-generating activity.
