The MENA region is facing severe impacts of climate change, with temperatures increasing at twice the speed of other parts of the globe and the highest rates of water stress. Environmental degradation, population growth, governance challenges, and conflict exacerbate the situation. Climate-induced migration is increasing, particularly in response to drought, water scarcity, and sea-level rise, making it crucial to address the complex drivers and understand the needs, vulnerabilities, and capacities of climate migrants.

This policy brief presents an overview of women and girls' experiences with climate mobility in the MENA region and makes recommendations for governments, regional bodies, actors involved in programming, academics and research institutes. It highlights that women’s needs and experiences should be placed at the forefront of any response to climate mobility.

The recommendations identify priority areas of action to build women’s resilience to climate change, capitalize on their expertise and skills, and reduce the risks associated with displacement and forced migration.
